Board discusses Ridgeview Drive truck traffic

By MICHAEL HIRSCH

Special to The Press

There was discussion for the township to provide a truck traffic prohibition on Ridgeview Drive between Walbert Avenue and Huckleberry Road at the Feb. 7 South Whitehall commissioners meeting.

Currently, truck traffic is prohibited on Ridgeview Drive between Bulldog Drive and Walbert Avenue.

Township Engineer J. Scott Pidcock with the Pidcock Company, recommends restricting truck traffic on Ridgeview Drive due to deteriorating road surface and limited turning movements at intersections.

Residents expressed concerns about road conditions and safety, leading to a study and proposed signage improvements.

A motion was made for the ordinance for Ridgeview Drive truck restriction be sent to legal for review.

The motion was unanimously approved.

There was a resolution to grant a waiver for the subdivision and land development ordinance review and approval for the Tesla electric vehicle charging stations at Wawa, store 8078, Cedar Crest.

The plan was to modify the existing parking area and install charging stations at the South Crest Boulevard property.

Mike Testa of Tesla was present to answer questions about the plan and peak usage patterns.

Testa confirmed they will retain 10 spaces.

He also addressed usage.

“It varies throughout the day, just like it would at a gas station,” Testa said.

He also discussed the average length of time to charge a vehicle.

“I would say about 20 minutes is a good estimate,” Testa said. “If you pull in with about 10 percent battery remaining, you can charge up to about 85 percent in that time.”

He said there are apps that can show usage and will give some indication of congestion.

He doesn’t expect there to be long lines of users waiting to charge.

There was a motion to proceed with advertising for bids for the River Road relocation widening project as part of the Jordan Creek Greenway project.

The project is to be completed by April 30 with $1 million in funding from a PennDOT grant and $350,000 in local township funds.

Tom Petrucci and public works will discuss the project, including the relocation of a barrier and tree work.

Board President Diane Kelly asked if the barrier will function like a Jersey Barrier.

“It’s going to function like a Jersey Barrier but look like something nicer,” Petrucci replied.

A motion was made to adopt the resolution and it was unanimously approved.
