Gregory Soltis

Gregory Soltis, 75, formerly of Walnutport, died Feb. 12, 2024, at Bethlehem Manor.

Born in Allentown and raised in North Catasauqua, he was the son of the late George “Pete” and Veronica (Osinkosky) Soltis.

He graduated from Catasauqua High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history education from Mansfield University.

He joined VISTA - Volunteers In Service To America - which is now part of the Ameri Corps. He spent the next two years in Tennessee lobbying to bring back food stamps to those in need. Upon returning to the Lehigh Valley, he worked for several local companies including Bethlehem Steel, Howard’s Construction and Hillenbrand Framing. He worked pouring urethane floors for VersaTech and racket ball courts for Martin Surfacing and Decking in Maryland. In 1984, he became foreman for Kempton Valley Builders. He formed Greg’s Enterprise Construction/ Construction with Concern in 1989.

He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Slatington, where he sang in the choir. Earlier in life, he was an altar server for St. Andrew’s Church, North Catasauqua.

He was a member of Walnutport Canal Association and was part of the planning of the annual Walnutport Canal Festival. He was a member of Walnutport Playground Association where he played the Easter bunny every year. He was a member of Slatington Rotary Club. He coached baseball for North Catasauqua Little League.

He was a paperboy for the Bethlehem Globe-Times, receiving the Outstanding Newspaper Boy Award presented by Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association. He also received the annual Spirit Award from Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by a sister, Gloria of North Catasauqua; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Young of Lancaster.

He was predeceased by a sister, Georgette Young.
