District News: Zephyr students enjoying Read Across America Week activities

Zephyr Elementary School is continuing its participation in Read Across America Week by celebrating the works of Dr. Seuss.

Each day includes a dress-up theme and reading activities. March 7 is wear location apparel for “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” and March 8 is dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character for “Drop Everything and Read Day.”

Mark your calendar: March 8 is now a regular school day. This is a makeup day from the last snow day in February.

Lehigh Career and Technical Institute students and parents should check their email for directions, as LCTI is closed for an in-service.

Juniors and seniors are invited to Macy’s prom fashion show, set for 2 p.m. March 9 at Lehigh Valley Mall, Whitehall. Check the Whitehall High School newsletter link for more information on how to score a 20% discount on a personal stylist appointment.

Proposals are due by March 10 for Zephyr Elementary’s science fair, to be held May 15 during the school’s open house.

All interested participants must complete a brief proposal detailing initial ideas. Accepted participants will be expected to attend two after-school sessions to present progress and get feedback from Zephyr staff.

Reminder: Registration is full for Zephyr’s after-school STEM program by DaVinci Science Center, continuing 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 13, 20 and 27 and April 3 and 10. This program was designed by the Museum of Science and was limited to 25 students.

The program, titled Music to My Ears, involves learning how to become a sound engineer, figuring out how sound works through a series of hands-on experiments, building instruments and amphitheaters to amplify your music and heading to the recording studio to combine your knowledge and creativity to put on the best show ever.

The cost is free for Zephyr students.

WHS cheerleaders are hosting a Cheer Eggstravaganza, planned for 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 17 at Zephyr. Enter through the back of the building.

There will be dancing, cheering and an Easter egg hunt. Come meet the pet bunny, Peter Cotton Tail. The cost is $30.

WHS Theater Club will be presenting “Mean Girls: High School Edition” 7 p.m. March 21, 22 and 23 and 2 p.m. March 24.

In-person box office hours to purchase your tickets are 9 a.m.-noon March 9 and 16. The box office will also be open on show dates, 30 minutes before the show. Tickets are also on sale at showtix4u.com/event-details/79677.

Zephyr yearbooks are available for purchase for $25. The yearbook will capture various moments and memories throughout the year and will serve as a great keepsake for you and your child.

April 5 is the deadline to order.

Junior and senior obligations have been added to MySchoolBucks and can be paid there or at the main office. These obligations must be resolved prior to purchasing tickets to the prom in May.

Attention, WHS Class of 1974 alumni: Whitehall-Coplay School District would love to welcome you back and celebrate the 50th anniversary of your high school graduation by attending this year’s commencement ceremony and alumni reception June 3.

Complete the form, which you can find on the WCSD website, or call the WHS main office at 610-437-5081 to sign up for the reception.

Parents/guardians of graduating seniors: The flower and gift provider for the June 3 graduation ceremony is now accepting orders. You can pick up your order at the PPL Center the day of graduation.

Mid-quarter grades should be reviewed on PowerSchool by all students, parents and guardians. Paper progress reports will not be distributed. Paper report cards will be mailed at the end of each quarter.
