Vera Cruz Association needs a stage for annual homecoming event

Hayden Rinde and Sara Yost of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce met with the Upper Milford supervisors during their Feb. 15 meeting.

“Our mission everyday to work with these businesses is to stimulate the economy and improve the quality of life here in the Lehigh Valley,” Rinde told the supervisors.

Supervisor Daniel Mohr brought up the fact the Vera Cruz Community Association does not have a stage for this year’s homecoming.

In the past, they have rented one from the City of Allentown, but it will not be possible this year. Both Rinde and Yost indicated they have heard of similar situations and will investigate if there is anything they can do to help.

Later in the meeting, Mohr discussed with the board the various options the association has been looking into, including building a platform to lay on the grass.

The association is currently awaiting a decision from Northampton about a stage but time is running out.

Supervisor John Zgura explained to the board he reached out to both fire chiefs to obtain “hard numbers” for their needs, including getting them each a new hose. He had not heard back from either by the time the meeting started.

Supervisors approved a motion to advertise a contract of seal coat for 39,630 yards and 52,927 yards double application, as well as ultra-thin bonded wearing course.

In other meeting business, Resolution 2024-020 requiring a budget adjustment for the German Road culvert project was approved. The work will be done in-house to redo parts of the bridge. The resolution transfers money from the unappropriated fund balance of the New Tripoli Bank Money Market General Fund to the general account.

Resolution 2024-021 requiring an update to the township engineer fee schedule was also passed.

Isabelle Miller of Hival Und Dahl sent a request to the supervisors for a grant support letter.

No specifics for the grant or to whom the letter will go were presented. The letter is seen as more of a general letter to be added to a grant application package. The group has not yet decided for which grant they will be applying.

During public comments, resident Phil Casey spoke at length about the needs of each fire company. He made the point of saying although the evening’s agenda included the item fire company funding discussion, neither company sent representatives.
