David R. Smith, 88, of Allentown, formerly of New Tripoli, died Feb. 25, 2024, at home.
He and his wife, Patricia A. (Adam) Smith, were married 66 years last June.
Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Irvin A. and Rebecca R. (Engel) Smith.
A 1953 graduate of Perry Township High School, and a 1967 graduate of East Stroudsburg University, he earned a Master’s in Education degree from Lehigh University, graduating in 1964.
He worked for Northwestern Lehigh School District from 1957-96, as acting principal, assistant principal, high school principal from 1962-82, and as a teacher from 1982-96 in numerous subjects, along with being a coach and director of athletics.
He was in the U.S. Army Reserve 413th Postal Unit, Kutztown, from 1958-64.
A member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, New Tripoli, he served on consistory and as consistory president.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m. March 1, at Ebenezer UCC, 7293 Decatur St., New Tripoli.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m.
Interment will be private at St. Luke’s UCC Cemetery, Shoemakersville.
