Central collecting diapers and baby wipes for Sixth Street Shelter

The Science Olympiad Team recently participated in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition, with several Vikings earning special accolades. Bryn Lawler and Katie Hines won first place in the “Write it, Do it” event and Anna Edwards and Therese Gasser won first place in the “Disease Detectives” event.

The Miriam Project will collect diapers and baby wipes for babies in the Sixth Street Shelter March 11-15. Students may donate one pack of diapers in size 6 or 7, one package of pull ups size large or extra large or two packs of baby wipes to receive a dress down day March 22. These items will directly help mothers and their children in difficult circumstances. Visit Room 404 with any questions.

Central will host the Future Viking semiformal dance 7-10 p.m. March 15. All seventh and eighth grade students may attend for a cost at the door and they may also purchase refreshments at the dance.

This event provides a great opportunity to meet future classmates while enjoying music and dancing.

Show your love for the ACCHS spring musical program by participating in their Designer Purse Bingo March 16 in Masson Auditorium. Doors will open 12:15 p.m., with games beginning 1 p.m. Bingo players will enjoy 20 games with prizes and may purchase five specialty games for an additional cost. Participants may preregister online at bit.ly/49mngzR or pay at the door. Prizes range from $100 to $600 and include bags from Coach, Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Vera Bradley.

Save the date for the ACCHS Class of 2028 freshmen orientation 6-8 p.m. May 8 in Rockne Hall. All incoming ninth grade students and their parents and guardians may attend. The evening will begin with registration and freshmen T-shirt pickup, followed by a welcome presentation and an academics, athletics and activities fair. Lehigh University spring rowing registration is now open to any student 13 or older. No rowing experience is necessary to join. ACCHS Campus Ministry will run a Holy Thursday Seven Churches Pilgrimage Retreat 5-11:30 p.m. March 28. Retreatants will receive a Chick-fil-A supper 5 p.m. in Masson Auditorium and will go to the Cathedral Church for the 7 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper, celebrated by Bishop Schlert. After Mass, retreatants will travel to fulfill a traditional Seven Churches Pilgrimage.

These stops commemorate the final seven locations Jesus visited between Holy Thursday and his death on Good Friday. At each church the individual kneels at the Altar of Repose and prayerfully contemplates these events. All students will return to the Pits around 11:30 p.m. Register at tinyurl.com/7chrcggl.

After falling in the EPC playoffs, both the Viking and Vikette basketball teams entered the District 11 Playoffs. The Vikettes defeated Lehighton 61-32 in the Class 4A Girls Basketball Quarterfinal Feb. 21. The Vikings faced Tamaqua Feb. 23 in the quarterfinals.

Congratulations to Amelia Michener and PJ Kofroth for earning “Swimmer of the Meet” after their last dual meet of the season versus Nazareth. Amelia improved her time in the 100 free, while PJ achieved a personal best in the 500 free. Viking Nation is beyond proud of all our swimmers and divers for their dedication and hard work this season.

Although some winter sports teams continue to battle in the postseason, spring athletes will commence their seasons shortly. The boys tennis team will have its first match away at Freedom High School 3:30 p.m. March 11 followed by a home match against Emmaus High School 3:30 p.m. March 13. Spring sports registration closes March 1 and athletes must register via Family ID. They must also provide a current Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association physical dated after June 1, 2023 and a current impact test.
