New cooking series at Lower Macungie Library

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
There will be an adult program “Fun, Friendship & Fiber Arts” 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and March 15. Bring your fiber art project and patterns and have some fun.
There will be “Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults” 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 27.
“Get In The Game” for families is an opportunity to play your favorite games 6-8 p.m. Feb. 27 and March 14.
There will be family story times for all ages but most suited for ages 2-5 years old 10-10:30 a.m. Feb. 28 and 29 and March 6 and 7.
The program “Art of Cooking: Irish American Cooking” for adults will be offered 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 1. This is part of a new series featuring various cooking styles and skills. There will be a cooking demonstration and a brief history of Irish American food.
There will be a “Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss” scavenger hunt 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 2. Children who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a prize.
The program “A Voice For All: The Role of Women” will be held 1-2:30 p.m. March 4 in honor of Women’s History Month.
Lower Macungie Library’s writers group for adults will meet 10-11:30 a.m. March 8. This is an opportunity for professional or casual writers to meet in a judgment free space to encourage creativity.
The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will discuss “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles 10:30 a.m. to noon March 6. The next meeting is April 3 and the book club meets virtually.
Books & Beyond will meet 6:30-8 p.m. March 11 in the library multipurpose room to discuss “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See.
Longwood Gardens Community Read Book Discussion: “The Last Garden in England” by Julia Kelly will be held 6:30-8 p.m. March 12.
There will be a “Chit Chat & Craft Night” 6-8 p.m. March 19. Adults can craft their own floral wall hanging out of artificial flowers and other materials.
Movie night at Lower Macungie Library 6-8 p.m. March 20 will feature “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” for teens and adults to celebrate Fred Rogers’ birthday.
A new book club – Alburtis Afternoon Book Club – will meet 1-2:30 p.m. March 21 to discuss “The Giver of Stars” by JoJo Moyes. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Community Center.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon March 5 at the community center. Entertainment will be by musician Jeni Hatcher, starting 1:30 p.m. There will also be a collection for Zionsville Food Pantry. Members are welcome to stay after the meeting to socialize and play games.

The Emmaus High School Drama Department will present “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” 7 p.m. March 20, 21, 22 and 23 and 2 p.m. March 23 and 24. There will be a Gold Card preview performance 6 p.m. March 19. The Gold Card serves as your ticket. Online ticket sales have begun. Lower Macungie Middle School will present the musical “The Wiz” 7 p.m. March 14, 15 and 16 and 2 p.m. March 16.
Eyer Middle School will present “Mean Girls Jr.” 7 p.m. Feb. 29, March 1 and 2 and 2 p.m. March 2.
Easter bunny photo fun will be offered for children 10 and under 9-11:10 a.m. March 23 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. Registration is required and opens March 1.
Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Those who rented plots last year can renew their plot rental for 2024 through Feb. 29. Starting March 1, plots are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis for residents and nonresidents. Contact the community center for more information.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.
Open gym is available at the community center, 3450 Brookside Road. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours for February are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Hours for March are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.
