The Emmaus High School boys wrestling team was riding a streak of winning two Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual matches in a row and three of its last four before falling to Parkland in the regular season finale, 39-15 last Tuesday at EHS.
The Trojans won nine of the 13 bouts, including a streak of six straight from 114 pounds through to 145 pounds.
Emilio Albanese opened the match with a 4-1 decision at 107 pounds to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead. But three consecutive decisions by Parkland gave it a 9-3 advantage, and then a pin at 133 and back-to-back decisions at 139 and 145, respectively, staked their lead to 21-3.
Xayden Sallit earned a pin in 1:31 at 152 pounds to answer the Trojans’ run, and then Jesse Scott won a 6-2 decision at 160 pounds as Emmaus found itself trailing 21-12.
Parkland responded in a big way with a pin at 172 before the Hornets’ Massimo Tranguch recorded a 6-3 decision at 189 pounds and his team trailed 27-15 with just two bouts to go, needing back-to-back pins to stay alive.
But it was the Trojans who tallied two straight pins and won the match in the end.
Emmaus will now turn its attention to the District 11 3A tournament Feb. 23-24. Regionals are set for the following weekend and then the PIAA championships will be the next weekend in Hershey.
