Parkland girls top Nazareth

The Parkland High School girls basketball team had a successful 2023-24 regular season, finishing 17-3 overall and 16-1 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, earning the three seed in the EPC Tournament.

The Trojans ended the last two weeks of the season with four consecutive victories and won 10 of 12 games since the turn of the calendar year.

Parkland used a strong second and third quarter to extend an early lead and defeat the sixth seed, Nazareth, last Friday night in an EPC quarterfinal round game at Parkland High School.

Parkland took full advantage of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Eagles 16-10 to push an 11-6 lead after one quarter to 27-16 at halftime. The Trojans did even better in the third quarter, outscoring them 12-4 as the advantage soared to 39-20, all but locking up the game. They were actually outscored in the final stanza, 10-7, as Nazareth did its best to put forth a comeback attempt, but it fell short as Parkland was able to walk off its home court as winners.

Talia Zurinskas led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, including two 3-pointers. Delaney Chilcote also finished in double figures in scoring with 12 points, also draining two 3-pointers. Madi Siggins tallied six points. Addi Fritzinger netted three points and both Isabella Hallai and Aneri McGalla contributed two points. Sophie Frank rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with one point.

The game between Parkland and second-seeded Easton in the semifinal round, originally scheduled for Tuesday night, was postponed to Wednesday night due to weather. The winner will take on the winner of eighth-seeded Emmaus and fifth-seeded Liberty in the championship game on Thursday evening.
