New Wawa looks likely

Terraform Engineering, LLC, moved one step toward its proposed Wawa at 3608 Nazareth Pike, with Bethlehem Township Commissioners voting in favor of a waiver allowing a revised final plan approval Feb 5.

According to Bethlehem Township Planning Director Amanda L. Raudenbush, “The fire code does not require a sprinkler system for a building of this size. However, it is on the plan.”

Randenbush explained having it on the final plan was an error on the part of the developers, who asked its removal directly by the commissioners to save time and avoid confusion.

The Bethlehem Active Transportation Plan, which was approved last month, was adopted and added to Section 6 of the 2017 Comprehensive Plan of Bethlehem Township.

Township Manager Doug Bruce confirmed the township is committing $2.617 million toward the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Pennsylvania Management Agency for the first phase of the Easton Avenue flood mitigation project.

Commissioners agreed to fund the $8000 for the Archie Project out of the Park and Recreation Fund, rather than the General Fund.

There was a brief discussion on the needs of fire companies and meeting their needs to pay for new fire trucks between Bruce and the board. Bruce told the commissioners he would look at numbers and get back to them.
