Liberty’s girls swim team won its Senior Night meet against Freedom, 100-72, on Feb. 5 at Liberty.
Lilah McClarin, Leah Onia, Audrey Bloss-Ferry, and Chelsea Hearn won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.11 for the Hurricanes to open the city rivalry meet.
Onia went on to win the 200 freestyle in 2:12.43, Bloss-Ferry took first in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly in 1:04.58, and Hearn was first in the 50 free in 25.72 and the 100 free in 56.65.
“I love this meet because it’s the biggest competition...good sportsmanship. It’s a great day,” said Hearn. “I qualified for districts today. I just got off being sick too, so I was a little bit more rested. Tech suit on and just went all out.”
Freedom’s Hayden Taylor won the diving event with a score of 209.95.
Liberty’s Elle Surowiecki won the 500 free in 6:32.87.
O’Hara, Katie Bruno, Amelia Paxton, and Hearn were the 200 free relay winners in 1:49.01.
McClarin took first place in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.52.
Freedom’s Alivia Deemer won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.82 with Onia coming in second in 1:11.85.
“When I finished the first 50, I knew I was a little bit ahead of [Onia], so I wasn’t really looking,” said Deemer. “I didn’t know how close it was until the end of the race. I could hear it getting louder as I was finishing. It was a little bit hard for me to keep it up, but I think I did.”
Bloss-Ferry, O’Hara, Bruno, and Paxton won the 400 free relay in 4:09.48.
At the end of the meet, Hearn was presented with the Ted Martz Award, given each year to the outstanding boy and girl swimmer of the Liberty-Freedom meet.
“I had no clue until (Coach) Reik (Foust) called me up and he started giving his speech,” said Hearn. “It means a lot to me.”
