Having to face two strong Colonial League teams in the same week is tough, especially when it comes near the end of what has been a tough season for a team. The Salisbury girls basketball team (1-15 Colonial, 3-17 overall) had to face both Northwestern Lehigh and Palmerton in back-to-back games. The games came after a 34-19 loss to Saucon Valley.
Against the Panthers (3-14, 4-16), Kendra Morgan was held to six points as the leading scorer for Salisbury, and Bella Nimeh finished with five. The Panthers were able to hold the Falcons scoreless in the first quarter as they jumped out to an 11-0 lead and led 16-6 at halftime.
Northwestern Lehigh junior Cara Thomas scored 18 first-half points as the Falcons trailed 42-10 at halftime and would go on to lose 65-19. Morgan again led Salisbury with six points and Desiree Nales finished the game with five points for the Falcons in the loss to the Tigers (11-5, 16-5)
The tough week of games ended against Palmerton and the Bombers showed no mercy as they beat the Falcons 51-24. Palmerton (16-0, 20-1) jumped out to a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched that to 34-15 by halftime. The Blue Bombers focused on controlling Morgan, Salisbury’s leading scorer and held her to four points in the game. Maya Suleiman led the team with six and Nimeh and Isabella Gonzalez both finished with five points for the Falcons in the loss.
The season wraps up this week with Salisbury playing at Southern Lehigh (4-12, 5-16) and then traveling to Kutztown (2-19) for a nonleague game.
