Helen Margie, 96, died Dec. 9, 2023 and her husband, Dr. Walter Margie, 100, died Jan. 15, 2024. They were married for 69 years.
Born in Bethlehem, Helen attended Liberty HS and St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She worked at St. Luke’s and Chestnut Hill Hospital near Philadelphia. She was a volunteer with the Cancer Boutique at the Rink, Bethlehem, for more than 30 years.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Walter graduated from Lehigh University, where he majored in chemical engineering. He earned a medical degree at Temple School of Medicine.
He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He taught chemistry at Wilkes College. He was an internal medicine doctor for over 50 years in the Bethlehem community. He was on the St. Luke’s Board of Directors. Both were both members of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
They were survived by Amira (Erdal) Unver, Ned (Maryann Friend) Margie, Melissa (Kim) Peterson and Peter Margie; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; Walter is also survived by a brother, Dr. Robert Margie.
Services were private.
