Harris sinks five treys in win over PME

Since falling to rival Parkland for its first loss in the new calendar year back on Jan. 8, the Emmaus High School boys basketball team has been on a roll. The Hornets won their next four games after that matchup with the Trojans, and they continued to grow the win streak with two victories last week, both games were on the road.

Emmaus went out of conference and defeated Southern Lehigh 75-43 last Thursday night and then followed that up just 24 hours later with an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Allen, winning 55-38. Emmaus opened this week with a 72-54 win over Pocono Mountain East Monday.

In the win over the Spartans, it was a second quarter spurt that put the Hornets over the top. Leaving the first quarter with a 15-10 advantage, Emmaus more than doubled up the score of Southern Lehigh with a 22-9 outburst in that eight-minute stanza to go into the locker room at halftime on top 37-19. The Spartans outscored the Hornets by two points in the third quarter, but a 21-5 fourth quarter gave Emmaus the 32-point victory.

Will Barber finished with a game-high 17 points and Jametric Harris recorded 15 points against Southern Lehigh. Jacques Curley-Katrishen also ended the night in double figures in scoring with 10 points. Jack Csensits added nine points and Teagan McCourt contributed eight points. Chase Whitesell had five points in the win.

The Canaries scored the game’s opening basket, a three-pointer, to take the early lead, but Emmaus scored five straight points and after a 5-5 score early on, led the rest of the way, going up by as many as 20 points early in the third quarter.

Emmaus opened the 28-13 lead over Pocono Mountain East by the end of the first quarter and led 43-23 at halftime.

Harris scored a game-high 19 points against the Cardinals, including first three-pointers, while Barber had 16 points in the win.

Emmaus has a busy final week of the regular season with five games in a span of eight days. The Hornets, who are 15-3 overall and 11-2 in the conference, hosted Central Catholic on Tuesday. They host Parkland on Friday and then have a home nonconference game against Methacton on Saturday. The season finale is set for next Monday night at Whitehall before the EPC Tournament begins that weekend.
