Girls swim team tops Liberty

Swimming season is getting down to the end as swimmers ready themselves for invitationals, districts, and for some, states. The Emmaus girls swim team came up with an East Penn Conference victory against Liberty recently to improve to 7-1 in league meets and 7-5 overall.

Mabry Krause had herself a big meet with top times in two individual events and as a part of a relay team in two other events. Krause cruised to an easy victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a season best time of 2:21.74 and then posted a personal best time in the 100-yard freestyle where she edged teammate Gloria Klees by :00.42 with Mia Baldwin finishing third.

Druthi Reddy had a nice day as well when she was part of the 200-yard medley relay with Krause, Klees, and Baldwin to take the top spot there and then had top times in the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. Reddi, a sophomore, had a personal best time of 5:50.72 in the 500 freestyle, and finished with a time of 1:11.79, also a personal best in the breaststroke, besting teammate Georgia Magditch by :00.73.

The 500-yard freestyle saw Emmaus swimmers take the top three spots, all with impressive times. After Reddi came at 6:03.05, a personal best, and Kendall Shriver with a season best time of 6:03.05. Liz Mazzetti swam the event as an exhibition and finished in 6:00.18, a personal best.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team also took the top spot to give Baldwin two relay wins and she added an individual win in the 100-yard backstroke, besting teammate Sophia Harmon by a mere :00.18 to get the win. The fourth member of the medley relay team was Klees, who also was on the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Krause, Mazzetti, and Gabriella Antunes. She was also on the 200-yard freestyle team and took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle.

Mazzetti was the fourth member of the 200 freestyle team and also joined Baldwin, Mandy Barns, and Izzy Sparaco on the 400-yard freestyle team.

Another individual winner was Sophia Harmon, who swam the 200-yard freestyle in 2:09.52, just ahead of Sparaco. Bella Marsh finished third and Barnes swam the event as an exhibition with a time of 2:59.59 for the Hornets.

In diving, Liberty’s Gabriella Madeira won the event and was followed by Emmaus divers Elle Bagley and Keira Gilboy, who were neck-and-neck with scores of 136.65 and 136.10, respectively.

Divers compete in the EPC championship coming up on Feb. 10. For the swimmers, the Cedar Crest classic will be held Saturday at Parkland High School.
