Girls relays excel; Willard, Abeln set records at indoor T&F meets

The Parkland indoor track and field teams competed a few meets recently.

On Jan. 5 the girls 4x200 meter relay team of Amie Mason, Cierra Valley, Lucy Tobia and Cynthia Grullon ran a 1:52.65 to take first place at the Warrior Classic at East Stroudsburg University.

The Trojans also had three second-place finishers at the Warrior Classic, including Emily Hoysan (55-meter hurdles), Tobia (200 meter dash) and the girls 4x200 relay team of Ana Gbur, Hoysan, Aubree Lang and Julia Hayward. Taking third place at the meet for Parkland were Mikki Kastelik (triple jump) and the girls 4x400 relay team of Gracie Trexler, Addison Shevlin, Julianna Varano and Marley Boyle.

Two Parkland boys relay teams took fourth place at ESU, including the 4x200 (Alex Kelchner, Xander McWhite, Logan Thrash, Brian Hard) and the 4x400 (Jalen McKenzie, Aidan Keller, Owen Schiavi, Nate Parisi. And a trio of Trojan individuals finished fifth at the meet, including Russel Clark (shot put), Harshita Keerthi (3200) and Hard (400).

A day later at the Hispanic Games at the Armory Track in New York, Parkland’s Paul Abeln set a school record by running the 1600 in 4:27.95 for third place in the event.

The Trojans were back at the Armory Track on Jan. 19-20 when Andrew Beers took second place in 55-meter hurdles at the Armory Officials Hall of Fame Invitational. Ethan Willard set a school record in the 3200 at the meet, running the event in 9:39.77 for 10th place.
