Emmaus boys beat Central, drop next two games

The Emmaus High School boys basketball team got revenge on one of the teams it lost to earlier in the season, but could not do the same against another last week.

The Hornets took down Central Catholic 63-46 last Tuesday, Jan. 30, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game, but dropped a conference matchup three nights later to Parkland, 73-45. Emmaus also dropped a nonconference game Saturday against Methacton, 76-66.

In the victory over the Vikings, Emmaus’ seventh straight win, three players reached double digits in scoring, with a fourth just out of reach. Teagan McCourt led the way with a game-high 15 points. Will Barber tallied 14 points and Jametric Harris netted 11 points. Jack Csensits finished with eight points.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 12-5 lead after the opening quarter and were on top 23-12 at halftime. Their advantage remained in double figures throughout the rest of the second half.

The win streak came to an end against the rival Trojans, however, as they used a 25-7 second-quarter run to take control of the game by halftime and never gave any inch from there.

Barber had a game-best 21 points and Harris chipped in 11 points. Jack Curley-Katrishen added six points.

Against Methacton, just like the night before, Emmaus trailed for almost the entirety of the game and was down by double figures at halftime and could not rally back.

Harris scored a team-high 24 points and Barber added 19. Matt Volquez contributed seven points.

Emmaus ended its regular season schedule at Whitehall Monday and opens the EPC playoffs Saturday. Emmaus is likely to be the No. 4 seed with a home game against Central Catholic in the first round.

The District 11 Class 6A playoffs start Feb. 20. The Hornets were 16-5 overall and 12-3 in the conference with one game left to play.
