The Emmaus High School girls basketball team escaped Rockne Hall with a thrilling two-point victory last Tuesday, Jan. 30, amassing some revenge on Central Catholic after falling to them back in December.
It was also the Hornets’ first victory over the Vikettes since 2017. Emmaus ended the week by falling to rival Parkland last Friday night in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
Freshman Kayla Snyder drained a game-winning three-pointer with just 0:04 to go off of an inbound play to push her team to the 43-41 win over Central.
It was the seventh consecutive victory for Emmaus and the ninth win in its last 11 games. The Hornets started fast and led l11-6 after the first quarter, but watched as Central outscored them 18-7 in the second to go into the locker rooms at halftime on top 24-18.
Emmaus still found itself behind 34-29 heading into the fourth quarter, but began its rally in the final eight minute period and punctuated by Snyder’s shot from distance. She finished with a team-high 11 points. Gabby DeVita also finished in double figures with 10 points, while Mya Cooper tallied eight points and both Cassie Doemling and Sofie Laird added six each.
Against the Trojans, the Hornets trailed after both the first (17-11) and second quarters (29-21), but outscored Parkland 14-10 in the third period to cut the deficit in half at 39-35.
DeVita and Cooper scored 14 points and each of Doemling and Snyder contributed six points.
Emmaus hosted Whitehall this past Monday night in the regular season finale. Emmaus came up just short of a spot in the EPC playoffs, which begin this weekend. The Hornets have qualified for the District 11 playoffs, which begin Feb. 20 with a pigtail round and resume Feb. 23 with quarterfinals.
