The Parkland High School boys wrestling team bounced back from losing its three previous Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual matches by taking down Freedom on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Trojans continued their current win streak by defeating Pleasant Valley last Wednesday night, Jan. 24, 45-15, in the first of three consecutive matches away from home.
Parkland won nine of the 13 bouts, including four pins, three major decisions and a forfeit, all qualifying for six points.
The Bears actually got on the scoreboard first in the match with a 9-8 decision at 107 pounds, but the Trojans responded with six straight victories, three pins and three major decisions. Matthew Velez and Eli Russ had back-to-back major decisions at 114 and 121, respectively. Blake Dergham followed with a pin at 127. Elias Sallit earned a major decision at 133 and then Leo Kern and Liam Spang combined for back-to-back pins at 139 and 145, respectively, to give their team a 30-3 advantage.
The two teams then traded wins in the final six bouts. Christopher Toth won by forfeit at 160. Julius Reyes recorded a 7-4 decision at 189 pounds and Michael Gavrilesku concluded the match with a pin in 1:33 at 285 pounds.
Parkland is now 4-4 overall in conference duals and has its second of three straight road duals as it will traveled to take on Dieruff this past Wednesday night. The Trojans are then at Emmaus next Tuesday night in the regular season finale.
