Boys swimmers improve to 7-1

The Emmaus boys swim team downed Liberty 134-52 recently to send the Hornets into their final dual meet of the season against Nazareth at 7-1 in the East Penn Conference and 9-3 overall.

Logan Hartman left the meet with two individual and two relay wins to his credit. The individual win came in the 100-yard freestyle, and he then was part of three relay teams that finished first in the 400-freestyle relay, 200-freestyle relay, and the 200-medley relay. His time of :50.21 in the 100-freestyle was a personal best.

Logan Shriver also had a strong day when he won the 200-yard IM and then was part of the 400-freestyle and 200-medley relay teams that took top spots for Emmaus in the meet.

Emmaus took the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle and all three swimmers set personal best times in the event. Griffin Messenlehner won the event with a time of 1:50.50, Will Reichart finished with a time of 1:59.09 and Carter Smith finished with his personal best time of 2:01.89.

Brennan Smith swam the event as an exhibition, but also had a strong time with a finish of 2:01.35 for the Hornets.

Messenlehner was with Hartman, Garrett Longbons, and Reid Lovett on the 200-yard freestyle relay team to give him two wins on the day.

Longbons got an individual win in the 500-yard freestyle when he bested teammate Julian Vlaeminck by a little over a second.

Before swimming the grueling 500, Vlaeminck swam as a sprinter in the 50-yard freestyle and took that event with a personal best time of :22.32 to give him two top finishes on the day.

Anderson Borst was the fourth member of the 200-yard medley relay team and won the 100-yard backstroke event with a personal best time of :54.48, just over five seconds ahead of teammate Joe Lyons, who also swam the event in a personal best time of :59.85.

In diving, Emmaus took the top two spots in a close battle. Robbie Barnes finished with a score of 163.55, just ahead of Doug Cornish, who posted a score of 163.10.

After the meet against Nazareth, Emmaus will compete in the Cedar Crest Classic Saturday at Parkland on Saturday and the EPC Diving championships are coming up February 10 back at Emmaus.
