Party time
The revelers at the American Club of Coplay pavilion, 300 Cherry St., time-warped back to a few decades as they socialized, enjoyed food and drink and listened to 1980s pop music for several hours during the Living in the 1980s was Risky Business dance night Feb. 10.
The pavilion was adorned with posters of movies popular in the 1980s, such as “E.T.,” “Top Gun” and more. Some attendees dressed in popular 1980s garb.
The party was to support Coplay Sports, which has served Coplay kids and families with baseball, softball, basketball and cheerleading programs for nearly 60 years. The annual Coplay Sports Santa Claus Run is a fixture and memory maker for all in Coplay.
Dave Kressley’s Music Mania Productions Light and Sound Systems provided the entertainment. His company is located at 215 Grape St., Whitehall. Call 610-231-1550 for information or to book Music Mania Productions.
Event coordinator and longtime energetic volunteer Scott Kolumber led a large team of Coplay Sports volunteers to run the kitchen, sign folks into the party, run the refreshments area and help attendees with whatever they needed.
Cameron Cooper and Joey Kolumber staffed the ticket sales along with Triz Schoch. In the refreshment area, Cindy Joseph, of Whitehall, and Rachel Horn, of Fogelsville, served patrons.
Scott Kolumber, whose son Joey staffed ticket sales, was delighted to have another successful Coplay Sports event. He noted this was the 10th year they have held this party, according to his memory.
Chris Roman, of Northampton, and Jessica Leibenguth, of Whitehall, looked great dressed in their 1980s style. They said the food was good, they were having much fun, and the music was top notch.
Since a large number of party attendees were little kids or not even born in the 1980s, one did not hear too much of the popular slang of the 1980s - words like “fantabulous,” a blend of fantastic and fabulous, and “awesome,” meant extremely impressive or excellent and is still in use today.
