LVIA receives $40M to build cargo complex

The Lehigh Valley International Airport will receive a $40,798,046 grant from the Department of Transportation to build the Northside Logistics and Cargo Complex, U.S. Rep. Susan Wild announced recently.

The funding was made possible by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“This historic funding will revolutionize the Lehigh Valley International Airport’s ability to process record-breaking amounts of cargo,” Wild said. “Our region is perfectly situated to be a hub for the transportation of critical products and I’m thrilled that we were able to deliver this funding for our partners at ABE. I look forward to continuing to support investments that grow our local economy and bring new jobs to the Greater Lehigh Valley: By helping connect our region with the rest of the country, the Northside Logistics and Cargo Complex does exactly that.”

“This funding is critical to helping the Airport Authority address an immediate need for additional air cargo capacity – which has seen approximately an 800 percent jump since 2014,” said Tom Stoudt, executive director of the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. “With the airport located within the critical urban freight corridor, we anticipate our numbers will continue to trend upward as the airport is an important conduit to the movement of goods across Pennsylvania and the Northeast region.”
