The District 11 team wrestling tournament is set to take place on Saturday at Freedom High School.
The top eight teams from 2A and 3A make up the brackets in each class with wrestling getting started at 9 a.m. with the 2A quarterfinals.
3A action gets underway at 11 a.m. with their quarterfinal round, as semifinals from both classes will take place at 1 p.m.
Championship matches will both kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
Official tournament pairings won’t be released until Thursday, but Notre Dame Green Pond (8-1) will be the top-seed in 2A and the overwhelming favorite to take the crown, as the Crusaders should win their fourth straight district title. Six other 2A teams to clinch district berths include North Schuylkill (11-1), Saucon Valley (13-2), Pen Argyl (11-3), Lehighton (9-3), Tri-Valley (7-3) and Blue Mountain (8-4). The final spot will go to either Pine Grove (9-6) or Palmerton (8-7).
In 3A, only five teams clinched district berths coming into the week and the top-seed will go to either Nazareth (12-1) or Easton (15-1). Bethlehem Catholic (8-1) will most likely enter as the third seed, followed by Whitehall (17-2) and Pottsville (15-2).
Liberty (11-6) moved up to the sixth seed, followed by Northampton (7-5).
The final spot is a toss up, but Stroudsburg (12-5) was in the front of the line, followed by Pocono Mountain East (12-6), Parkland (6-6) and Freedom (10-8).
Bethlehem Catholic has won the last three district crowns and five of the last six, but this could be the year Easton or Nazareth take back the crown. The Blue Eagles last one districts in 2020 and Easton’s drought goes back to 2013 when they won their fourth straight title.
The top two teams from each class will advance to next week’s PIAA tournament with the district runner-up battling in the preliminary round next Monday.
