District News: PTO PLUS schedules Feb. 2 book bingo, fair, basket raffle

Whitehall-Coplay PTO PLUS is hosting its annual For the Love of Books bingo, book fair and basket raffle 5-7 p.m. Feb. 2 in the cafeteria of Whitehall-Coplay Middle School. The snow date is Feb. 9.

Raffle tickets are $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets. All baskets are valued at $75 and up.

Cash and credit card will be accepted.

If you cannot make it to the book fair, you can always shop online at scholastic.com/bf/msspring2024.

The Class of 1972’s scholarship fundraiser will be held March 4 at Keystone Pub, 1410 Grape St., Whitehall. The fundraiser is for dining in or carryout, and 10% of sales will benefit the scholarship fund.

The class awards two $1,000 scholarships to deserving graduating Whitehall High School seniors.

There is a cost per person, which is refundable the day of the event.

Whitehall Township Police Department will be hosting its third annual Youth Law Enforcement Academy program. The program will run 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 24-28 at the police department and Whitehall-Coplay School District and is available to Whitehall students or students who reside in Whitehall and are currently in fifth or sixth grade.

Registration is limited to 32 participants. The academy is free, with lunch provided daily. No transportation will be provided. The academy will include crime scene processing, M.E.R.T. demonstrations, the criminal justice system, presentations from other law enforcement agencies and more.

Registration opens 4 p.m. March 8. Details can be found on the department Facebook page or Officer Matthew Christman’s Twitter page at @SRO_Christman. Additionally, parents of WCSD fifth- and sixth-graders will be emailed a flier with a link and QR code.

Zephyr Pride Foundation is honored to be able to help create a legacy with the creation of the Zephyr Walk, which will be a walkway from the varsity locker room of the field house to the football field. Be a part of that legacy as an alumni, coach, player or fan by purchasing your brick on the Zephyr Walk.

All bricks will be 8 inches by 8 inches with six lines and 18 characters available on each. All proceeds from the Zephyr Walk brick campaign will go to the foundation, Whitehall-Coplay School District’s educational group that supports academics, arts and athletics. The foundation has completed the first phase of the engraved brick project. Any orders that have been purchased starting June 2, 2020, and after will be installed in the second phase.

Attention, WHS Class of 1974 alumni: WCSD would love to welcome you back and celebrate the 50th anniversary of your high school graduation by joining in at the 2024 commencement ceremony for an alumni reception June 3.

Do you need a mentor for your student? Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley is available in Whitehall-Coplay School District for children ages 7-15. You can sign up for winter activities.

Mentors can help youth by growing confidence and self-esteem. They can increase exposure to new and different experiences. With a mentor, a student can receive personalized guidance and support, along with expanding social connections.

WHS students are ready to help! If you are aware of community service opportunities, consider reaching out to WHS staff. Students have been a tremendous help at Zephyr Elementary School and are available to volunteer their time in the community.
