Allen board OKs field house upgrades

During the Dec. 12, 2023, Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the board approve upgrades to the Howertown Park field house.

Whitaker Roofing and Siding will replace the gutters, downspouts and the current wood siding with commercial-grade aluminum siding. The work will cost $8,995 and be completed this winter.

In other business, supervisors discussed residents’ concerns over safety at the dog park. At a recent parks and recreation committee meeting, residents brought up concerns that visitors were not following dog park rules.

The committee questioned if an application and controlled access system would bring more control to the dog park. Residents would have to apply for a yearly permit for access to the park. A key fob, code or access card was also brought up to limit access to those with permits.

“Initially, the park was supposed to be self- policing,” Supervisor Dale Hassler said, adding there is no such system at other parks.

Hassler also questioned how much township residents would have to pay to implement a system.

Cameras were another idea brought to the table. The potential plans will be further discussed with Northampton County representatives.

Also at the meeting, the board tabled an intermunicipal sewer agreement with Catasauqua Borough and Catasauqua Borough Authority. The motion was tabled for further discussion and calculations. There would be a metered connection point for the Equus subdivision development, on Willowbrook Road, into Catasauqua’s sewer system. Catasauqua will charge Allen Township, and the township would then charge the property owners, according to Solicitor Lincoln Treadwell.

The board next meets 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at the municipal building, 4714 Indian Trail Road.
