Alice Sarah Arndt
Alice Sarah (Stauffer) Arndt, wife of the late Aurel M. Arndt Sr., died Jan. 23, 2024, at the Lutheran Home at Topton. She entered Eternity beside Jesus, welcomed by loved ones, with greetings of “Wie Bischt” resounding through Heaven.
Born Nov. 20, 1926, she was the second child of Jesse and Lillie (Stahl) Stauffer’s six children. She grew up near Hosensack. She graduated from the eighth grade from the local one room schoolhouse and immediately went to work at the Palm Glove Factory.
She married Jan. 29, 1949 and settled in Powder Valley, where she and her husband raised their children.
She worked in the Emmaus High School library in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Known for her pumpkin cake rolls, fasnachts and other delicious creations, no one ever went hungry in her presence.
Faith, family and friends were of utmost importance to her. She tirelessly served at Salem United Methodist Church (Zionsville) and played an active role in Stahl’s Pottery Preservation Society. Her unparalleled fundraising helped to preserve local and family history for future generations.
As her mind and body began to fail, singing hymns brought light and joy, even in her final days.
Schlofe Gute, rest well dear Alice, until we meet again.
She is survived by Aurel Jr. and recently deceased wife Jane, Nadine Schmoyer and her husband Jim; grandchildren: Jenny Frei, Sarah Rau, Tommy, Susannah Detwiler, Allyson (Shaffer) Nelson, Jesse Shaffer, Eric Schmoyer, Kim (Schmoyer) Maclver; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; siblings: Russell Stauffer, Norma Flexer, Miriam Flexer; many nieces and nephews.
