The Emmaus High School girls wrestling team was back in action last week, two weeks after its previous match. After falling to Pocono Mountain West by just six points (42-36) in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference dual match back on Jan. 3, the Green Hornets competed in two matches last week, losing to Freedom and beat Nazareth.
Emmaus won five of the 12 bouts against the Patriots, but the two more that Freedom won were both pins in a 42-30 win.
The Green Hornets didn’t have to wait much longer for their next competition, as they traveled to Nazareth the following night and won eight of 12 bouts to defeat the Blue Eagles 45-21.
The Patriots opened the match with back-to-back pins at 100 and 106 pounds, respectively, to go ahead 12-0 early. Alexis Ogutu gave her team their first points of the match with a pin in 1:51 at 112 pounds.
Freedom once again recorded back-to-back pins at 118 and 124 and then Sarah Luisi earned a pin at 130 pounds for the Green Hornets. Kadence Yannotti won via forfeit at 142 and both Olivya Kroope and Nadia Mohammed recorded pins at 170 and 235 pounds, respectively. All seven victories for the Patriots were pins.
Against Nazareth, there were four pins, three wins by forfeit and a decision to record the 45 team points. Nazareth won the opening bout at 100 via a pin, but Tiernan Frantz had a pin at 106 to tie the score. The Blue Eagles won the next two bouts with pins to go on top 18-6, but Destiny Tejada earned a 10-7 decision at 124, and then Luisi and Brynn Koberlein recorded pins and Yannotti won via forfeit to push Emmaus ahead 27-18. Allyson Schwalm and Kroope both did not have to wrestle as they picked up forfeits at 155 and 170, respectively. Mohammed then concluded the match with a pin at 235.
Emmaus now has a little over a month off until it next competes, at the South East Regional at Quakertown High School on Sunday, February 25th.
