EHS boys win three after layoff
The Emmaus High School boys basketball team had nine days off between games recently because of inclement weather causing postponed competitions.
The Hornets returned to action last Wednesday and beat Bethlehem Catholic 52-40. They took down Whitehall 54-40 on Saturday, a game that was moved from Friday. They made it three in a row with a win over Northampton Monday night, 59-44.
Emmaus trailed most of the first quarter but gradually pulled away for the victory at Becahi. The games saw senior Will Barber eclipse the 1,000 career point mark. He finished with 25 points and added eight rebounds. The Hornets led 27-23 late in the second quarter, but went on a run to push the advantage to 32-23 at halftime.
Owen Hafner recorded 10 points and Jametric Harris added nine in the win.
In the win over the Zephyrs, Emmaus opened up a 17-8 lead after the opening quarter and was up 30-18 at intermission. Whitehall had a tough time getting the score to within single digits the rest of the way.
Harris tallied a game-high 22 points and Barber contributed 20.
The Green Hornets were able to get out in front early and remain there the rest of the way as they began the first quarter with a 16-9 advantage.
Three players finished in double digits in scoring, led by Barber with 20. Harris contributed 17 points and Hafner netted 14 points.
Emmaus heads out of conference and travels to Southern Lehigh for a nonconference game on Thursday night and then are back in EPC action for a game at Allen on Friday night. The Green Hornets are 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
After Monday’s win the Hornets remained in the top spot in the District 11 Class 6A rankings with Parkland not far behind. They have already clinched a District 11 playoff berth with six games left in the regular season.
Emmaus is in second place in the East Penn Conference West Division, trailing Parkland (18-3; 11-0) by two games.
