Northwestern Lehigh moved closer to clinching a district playoff spot with three wins over the last week. The Tigers downed Wilson 60-42, Palisades 70-50, and then beat Bangor 63-48 Monday night in a makeup game that was postponed by flooding the week before. The wins have the Tigers at 10-4 overall and 8-2 in the Colonial League.
The Tigers need one more win to clinch the district playoff berth. They are also chasing down Palmerton for the top spot in the West Division and a spot in the Colonial League playoffs. They will face the Blue Bombers (9-1, 9-4) on the road next week.
In the win over Wilson (5-5, 6-6), Eli Zimmerman scored a career-high 19 points with Gavin Nelson right on his heels with 18 points in the game. At halftime, the Tigers held a 27-23 edge, but made some adjustments at the break and dominated the third quarter to go up 50-32.
Zimmerman was helped by his three three-pointers and Nelson and Ethan Kozlowski also hit from beyond the arc for Northwestern Lehigh.
Nelson followed his 18-point outing with 16 points against Bangor (7-3, 7-6) Monday night. Shane Marth finished that game with 16 and Zimmerman dropped in 10 points in the win.
There are eight games remaining in the regular season and seven of them are against Colonial League teams. The combined league record of the seven teams is 34-33 with key games against Notre Dame Green Pond (10-0, 12-2) and Palmerton (9-1, 9-4) coming up in the next week.
