The Baum School of Art celebrates their staff and educators with “Faculty & Staff Exhibition,” through Jan. 27, David E. Rodale and Rodale Family Galleries.
Among the 61 works in a variety of mediums are neon works by Lisa Stefanelli, a stoneware bust by Monika Stefany, pastels by Jacqueline Meyerson and oils by Emily Strong.
Recently-hired Baum instructor Renan Anan’s samurai armor-like sculpture “Incubo” (2021; steel, 12 in. x 12 in. x 36 in.) is darkly menacing. “Incubo” means “nightmare” in Italian, says the artist who channeled his struggle with sleep paralysis during the COVID-19 pandemic into the piece.
“It was like having metal armor trapping my body,” says Anan. The Japanese-European artist born in Brazil celebrates his diverse heritage in his work. He has two other three-dimensional pieces in the exhibition.
Other Baum art instructors and personnel in the exhibition include: Amy Bolger-Santucci, Blair Bromfield, Renzo Faggioli, Lauren Faurl, Bruce Fritzinger, Rosemary Geseck, Andrew Kish III, Alan Levin, Briana McLaurin, Robert Miller, Sarah Mueller, Jenny Nahan-Gidley, Sabrina Orrison, Lindsay Ott, Christopher Sarley, Alex Simonds, Annie Soltysiak, Dana Van Horn, Molly Washok, Jacob Zelenkofske and Baum School of Art Executive Director Shannon Fugate.
Emily Strong curated the exhibition.
The Baum School’s “Adult Student Exhibition 2024” opens Feb. 9 at The Baum School of Art.
