The Emmaus High School boys wrestling team stepped away from Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition and traveled west across the state to compete in the Mid-Winter Mayhem event at the Kovalchick Convention Complex on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania last Friday and Saturday.
Emmaus finished 27th of 57 teams in the event, garnering 62.5 points to finish behind East Penn Conference foe Parkland (18th 84.5 points). The Green Hornets finished ahead of Pocono Mountain East (31st, 58.5 points) and Freedom (50th, 19 points).

Albanese then won his quarterfinal match with a closer, 6-4 decision to advance to the final four. After dropping a 6-4 decision in the championship semifinal round, he bounced back with back-to-back victories of 5-4 and 7-5 decisions to claim third place.
Jesse Scott also had a successful weekend, winning his first three matches at 160 pounds with a pin and two decisions to advance to the quarterfinal round of the championship bracket. He then dropped back-to-back matches.

The Hornets are 1-3 overall and in EPC matches with six league matches remaining on the schedule, along with a dual-meet tournament this weekend. They are 14th in the District 11 Class 3A rankings but could move into the top eight if they can put together a winning streak late in the season.
Emmaus hosts Freedom (9-6 overall; 3-2 EPC) Wednesday and then travels to on Nazareth (8-1; 4-1) on Thursday before heading to the Denver Duals at Cocalico High School on Saturday.
