John D. Bailey, 82, of Allentown, formerly of New Tripoli, died Jan. 19, 2024, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He was a son of the late Adam and Naomi (Long) Bailey.
A 1959 graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, he worked for Met-Ed, Reading, until retiring in 1985.
He was of the United Church of Christ faith.
He was a member and past master and secretary of Slatington Lodge 440 F&A.M., and also a member of the Valley of Allentown, Lehigh Consistory, Slatington Royal Arch Chapter 292, and Allen Council 23 R.&S.M.M., Allentown.
He was a member of the Rawd of Grundsow Lodge No. 11 at the Fireline, Kresgeville, and was a former member of Lynn Township Planning Commission, having just retired from in December 2023.
Survivors include his sister, Marian E. Bailey, of Slatington, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings Franklin and Richard Bailey, Lucille Hamm, Janet German, Christine Kamp and Anna Handwerk.
There will be a private funeral service at the convenience of the family in Nester Funeral Home, New Tripoli.
Private interment in Jacob’s Union Cemetery. The Rev. James LeVan will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
