Due to renovations, the Emmaus Historical Society and museum at 218 Main St., Emmaus will be closed through February. Please call the office at 610-966-6591 to schedule a time to drop off any memorabilia. Monthly meetings will continue to be held.
The historical society will not accept any yard sale donations at this time due to the scheduled renovations and will not participate in the spring community yard sale. All donations received to date will be held for the next yard sale.
The historical society’s next program and membership meeting will be 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. The program, presented by Greg Huber, is titled “Old Barns of Emmaus and Surrounding Areas.”
Huber is a barn and house historian and consultant. He is the author of “The Historic Barns of Southeastern Pennsylvania: Architecture & Preservation, Built 1750-1900.”
Books will be available for purchase and a book signing will follow the program. Programs are free and members and nonmembers are welcome to attend.
The historical society’s fundraising committee is busy planning events for 2024. Lucky Bucks Bingo is back; save the date for March 10. Tickets are on sale online at web.lehighvalleychamber.org/events/ or at Emmaus Jewel Shop and David’s Electric.
Bus trips are scheduled for 2024. Please call Nancy at 610-967-5715 for more information and to sign up. The bus trips are: Milk & Honey Express Train Ride, Hershey Gardens & Butterfly Conservatory May 9, Daniel at Sight & Sound Aug. 22, Magic and Wonder Dinner Theater for the JukeBox Jive Show Oct. 15 and Dutch Apple Dinner Theater for White Christmas Nov. 8.
The society is looking forward to seeing all the regulars and hopefully some new faces, too.

East Penn Neighbors Helping Neighbors will hold its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser Feb. 10. The Emmaus Moravian Church, 146 Main St., Emmaus, will host the event with seatings 5 and 7 p.m. This important fundraiser finances the program’s mission to combat home insecurity among East Penn School District families with children.
The program costs roughly $22,000 annually, so the organization needs community support. Purchase your dinner tickets today by calling Emmaus Moravian Church at 610-965-6067 or Faith Presbyterian Church at 610-967-5600.
There is a suggested ticket donation; kids 2 and under eat for free. You may choose between a sit-down or takeout option this year. Invite your friends and thank you for helping local families.
Emmaus Main Street Partners will offer its annual Soup Crawl Trail noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 10.
This year will feature two different trails, with both including businesses in the Chestnut Street strip malls, the Triangle and beyond.

Pick up your passports noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 10. Each trail will have the same number of businesses providing soup, but the businesses on each trail will remain a surprise until the day of the event.
The Emmaus Farmers Market will continue to hold its winter markets on the second and fourth Sundays of each month through April. Brave the cold 10 a.m. to noon on these Sundays for fresh produce, baked goods, various beverages, meats and dairy products. The last market Jan. 14 showcased over 20 vendors.

The Emmaus Public Library will offer a stamp art workshop 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 27. Local artist and educator Orpha Poupore will demonstrate the process of cutting your own stamps and using them in art. The event limits participants to 12 individuals (16 years or older), so RSVP early by emailing eplcollection@cliu.org, calling 610-965-9284 or visiting the front desk.
The daytime book club will meet 2-3 p.m. Feb. 6 to discuss Jon Krakauer’s “Into Thin Air.” This harrowing book recalls a disastrous summit to Mount Everest, punctuated by high winds, bitter cold and altitude-related sickness. Adults should sign up via one of the methods listed above.
Some copies may be available to borrow when you sign up. Get ready for the daytime book club’s March meeting, centering on “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles.
The evening book club gathers 6:45-7:45 p.m. every second Tuesday of the month. They will share opinions Feb. 13 on David Sedaris’ “Me Talk Pretty One Day,” a collection of essays which highlights the author’s various life experiences and viewpoints. All adults should RSVP if interested. The library does have some copies and you may also access it on Libby and Hoopla.
March’s meeting will discuss “The Code of the Woosters” by P.G. Wodehouse.
The library invites all to a special “Caring for Someone with Dementia” presentation 10:30-11:30 a.m. Feb. 8 in the Margaret Knoll Gardner Lecture Room. Care Patrol representative Carol Frawley will explain methods on how to meaningfully interact with dementia patients. She will also supply resources for anyone looking for more information about dementia. All interested adults should RSVP for this event.
The Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group also meets 10:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month at the library. To join this group, call 610-965-7662 or email careensteele@gmail.com.
Miss Sue will continue winter story time 10:30-11 a.m. every Wednesday through February. Children of all ages may drop in to hear seasonal stories and participate in songs and crafts. Adult caregivers must attend with their child and they should prepare for the fun too!
The Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 early intervention staff will host an inclusive story time at the library 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26. Parents or caregivers may bring 3-5 year old children, of all abilities, to enjoy story time and a craft. Please RSVP to Becky via watsonr@cliu.org or text/call 484-633-7355.
The zoning hearing board meeting scheduled for Jan. 24 is canceled. Their next meeting will take place 6 p.m. Feb. 28. The next Emmaus Borough Council meetings will occur 6 p.m. Feb. 5 and Feb. 20. The planning commission will meet next 7 p.m. Feb. 8.

Borough offices will close all day Feb. 19 to celebrate the Presidents Day holiday.
