Emmeline Ungurian Lewis Dimmick LHS English teacher

Emmeline “Em” Ungurian Lewis Dimmick, 95, of Bethlehem died Jan. 14, 2024, in her residence at Moravian Village, and was one of the original residents there. Born in Hellertown and raised in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Helen (Buda) and Emil M. Ungurian. She was the wife of the late Dr. W. Deming Lewis, former president of Lehigh University until 1989, and the late Leonard R. Dimmick until 2011.

She was a 1948 graduate of Moravian College for Women.

She taught English at Liberty HS until 1966 where she sat on the board.

She was associated with Sayre Child Center, United Way, Kemerer Museum, Moravian College Alumni Association, American Association of University Women and Friends of the Lehigh University Libraries.

She traveled the world. She was in two book clubs, where she would read aloud for others, including visually impaired residents. She is survived by a son, Thomas Hoffman; a sister, Dr. Gisela “Giz” Smolinsky; a son-in-law, S. James Corsa; and two grandsons, She was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Corsa; and a brother-in-law, Mervin Smolinsky.
