The Salisbury boys basketball team won one of their first three games to open the 2024 portion of this season’s schedule. The Falcons (3-4 Colonial, 6-6 overall) faced nonleague competition against Lehigh Valley Charter Academy and then played a pair of Colonial League games against Northern Lehigh and Notre Dame of Green Pond.
Salisbury’s Bryan Gonzalez scored nine points on three three-pointers to lead Salisbury in scoring in the loss to the Jaguars (5-9). In all, the Falcons hit six three-pointers in the 42-36 loss.
Facing Northern Lehigh (0-7, 2-10), Thomas Lovelidge came out hot for the Falcons, nailing three three-pointers in the first quarter on his way to 15 points in the game. Jake Zellin finished with a game-high 22 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc for Salisbury. Lovelidge’s fast start opened a 22-7 lead after the first quarter, which paced the Falcons on their way to a 68-32 win over the Bulldogs. The 68 points are a season-high for Salisbury.
Salisbury was not able to equal their fast start against Notre Dame (8-0, 10-2) as the Crusaders jumped out to a 12-5 lead and led 27-18 at halftime. The good news is that every player who got into the game for Salisbury scored with Steven Lozada leading the way with nine points and Jacob Cadet right behind at eight points, but in the end, Notre Dame was able to pull away for a 61-46 win over the Falcons.
The Falcons record has them teetering on the edge for a spot in districts and they have some tough games coming up that could decide their fate. Next up is Pen Argyl (1-7, 1-11) and they are followed by a tough Bangor team that is 7-1 in the league and 7-4 overall. Wilson (5-3, 6-4) wraps up the upcoming stretch.
