Liberty takes fifth in Virginia

Liberty’s wrestling team came back from the Virginia Duals with a fifth place finish and a weekend experience that always provides memories for the program.

The Hurricanes (5-4) went 3-1 on the trip, registering wins over Heritage (VA), Hempfield and West Oak (SC).

The only mishap they had was a 40-24 defeat to West Deptford (NJ), but it was a trip that showed head coach Brandon Hall a consistent and aggressive effort from the team across the board.

“Overall we wrestled well,” said Hall. “We attacked more and went for pins. The effort was there and it was consistent across all weight classes. We were able to get some younger kids a match as well.”

Heavyweight Seth Kold finished the trip undefeated, pinning all of his opponents and fellow upper weight Dante Morrisson (215) finished 3-1 with three falls.

Jasiah Pagan (113) and Kam Abboud (138) also finished the weekend undefeated with four falls.

“Our big guys Dante and Seth keep improving and it showed this weekend,” said Hall. “I also thought Kam and Jasiah had a nice bounce back weekend. They both had four falls on the weekend and wrestled with a sense of urgency in all their matches.”

Liberty gets back into league action this week with a Wednesday showdown against Stroudsburg.
