Knights hand Falcons first CL setback
The Salisbury wrestling team suffered its first dual-meet setback of the 2023-24 season last week in a 56-12 loss to Pen Argyl.
The Green Knights came into the match at 1-2 in Colonial League matches, but their two losses were at the hands of Saucon Valley and Notre Dame (Green Pond), which have been the league’s dominant teams over the past decade.
Pen Argyl (8-2 overall; 2-2 CL) won the first bout by forfeit before Salisbury’s Jakub Gloc (215) picked up the Falcons’ first win and Sam Krauss followed with a pin to give his team at 9-6 early lead.
The Knights won the next eight bouts before Nathaniel Tone stopped the bleeding with a win at 160.
Salisbury drops to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in league matches while holding first place in the league’s West Division. The Falcons will host Palmerton Wednesday and compete in the Colonial League’s individual championship tournament Sunday at Catasauqua. That event begins at 2 p.m.
The Palmerton match will serve as the first of two senior nights for the team, which uses a co-op with Central Catholic to help fill the roster and to give Viking grapplers a team to compete with.
Salisbury High School senior wrestlers will be honored Wednesday, while senior wrestlers who attend will be honored in their school’s gym when the Falcons host Northern Lehigh at Rockne Hall on Jan. 31 to end the regular season.
