Hornet boys roll past Allen
The Emmaus boys swimming and diving team rolled to a win over William Allen High School recently in a 102-55 dual meet victory for the team. The Hornets are now 5-1 in the East Penn Conference and 7-2 overall this season.
Reese Wunderler picked up two first-place finishes with one coming in the 100-yard freestyle and the other in the 200-yard medley relay. Unofficially, Wunderler had a third top finish as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that swam the event as an exhibition team.
The medley relay team was made up of Wunderler, Brady Hazlett, Reid Lovett, and Logan Shriver. Wunderler also picked up a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle individual event and Lovett swam the 100-yard backstroke as an exhibition and finished with the top time in that event.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team consisted of Wunderler, Joe Lyons, Ridley Hartman, and Jack Duerholz. Their times will count as qualifying times for districts even though they swam the event as an exhibition.
In individual events, Logan Hartman took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle. Will Reichart took the 200-yard freestyle, and Carson Mosel won the 500-yard freestyle event. Aaron Kenny won the 200-yard individual medley. Garrett Longbons won the 100-yard butterfly, and Andersen Borst swam the 100-yard breaststroke and took the top time in that event.
Head coach Tim O’Connor chose to have his team swim many of the later events as exhibition events to not needlessly run up the team score when the meet was out of reach.
Allen does not have a diving team, leaving Emmaus divers to compete against each other for top scores. On the boys’ side, Robbie Barnes took first with a score of 153.40, followed by Doug Cornish (135.8) and Nick Heffner (119.6).
Emmaus swims at Easton (3-2, 4-2) this week and will compete in the Wilson Relays, one of the premier events of the season, Saturday at Wilson West Lawn High School. The Hornets also return to Wilson West Lawn for their annual dual meet on January 19.
