LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

January must be Ian Thomas’s month.

Last year at this time, Jan. 4 to be exact, the Whitehall Zephyr swimmer set a new school record in the 100 backstroke. This year on Jan. 10, Thomas set a new school record in the 100 freestyle, bumping teammate Aaron Stinner’s time of 48.62 for a 48.47.

Thomas’s new record was one of several being reset by Whitehall swimmers this season during the Zephyrs’ meet against Northampton.

Although the Konkrete Kids won the girls meet, 112-58, and the boys meet, 101-69, Whitehall won nine events.

Kendra Musselman took first place in the 200 free in 2:18.02, and Greta O’Brien won the 200 IM by a touch in 2:41.89.

Stinner won the 200 IM for the boys in 2:05.24 and the 100 butterfly in 55.35, and Thomas was first in the 50 free in 21.87, just short of breaking his own school record of 21.72.

Andrew Deutsch just missed first place in the 200 free to Northampton’s Ethan Brobst 2:03.21-2:03.62, and in another close race, Musselman was second in the 500 free in 6:17.71 to Northampton’s Jerailda Esteban’s first-place time of 6:16.73.

The Zephyrs captured first place in both 200 free relays with Ryann Giedl, O’Brien, Jenna Giedl, and Musselman finishing in 1:57.92, and Thomas, Gabe O’Brien, Deutsch, and Stinner finishing in 1:34.51.

Thomas, Deutsch, O’Brien, and Stinner also combined to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:35.05.
