If you have reliable transportation, can climb stairs and are able to lift up to 30 pounds waist high, then Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering can use your help. We need volunteers to assist with picking up donated food from retailers (Giant Grocery Store) and transporting the donations to BES to be used at the weekend bagged lunches and the shelter. Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley is looking for several enthusiastic, energetic and reliable individuals that can commit to at least four hours each month for at least one year to offer healthy food samples at food pantries within our network. Sights for Hope is seeking volunteers to work with staff to administer vision-screening tests for preschool and kindergarten age children in Lehigh or Northampton counties. This opportunity is perfect for those who like to interact with others, like to be on their feet and are comfortable standing for longer periods of time. Whitehall Historical Preservation Society needs assistance with cleanup 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 21. Entire time slot and shifts are available. Putg away holiday decorations, clean, dust, mop, organize and perform light interior maintenance. Weather permitting, some outside work may also be done. Cedarbrook Fountain Hill needs a volunteer to do a little shopping for a few residents and for some bingo prizes. This generally takes about two or three hours once a week. The volunteer would stop by our office for a list of items needed, then go shopping (generally at Walmart and the dollar store) and return with items and receipts. Our residents always appreciate having someone who can shop for them. Volunteers can set their own day/hours and must pass PA Criminal Background Clearance.
