Two local Scouts recognized in Court of Honor Ceremony in Macungie

Two area Scouts were celebrated recently in a court of honor ceremony held in Macungie.

Matthew John Kershner and Zechariah Charles Ziegenfus were recognized as new Eagle Scouts.

As a member of Troop 71 in Macungie, Matthew John Kershner served as an assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, Troop guide and quartermaster

For his Eagle project, Kershner built a staircase from the parking lot to the path for the outdoor chapel at Camp Serranova in Macungie.

He removed a deteriorated staircase made of telephone poles and built a new staircase of 30 steps with a handrail.

As a member of Troop 71 in Macungie, Zechariah Charles Ziegenfus served as senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and chaplain.

For his Eagle project, Ziegenfus built eight cat towers for Animals in Distress, a rescue organization located in Coopersburg. The towers give cats exercise and enrichment as they await adoption.

Both Scouts are also elected members of the Order of the Arrow, the honor society of Boy Scouts of America.

The Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony was held Nov. 25, 2023, in Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park.

State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th, attended the ceremony as well as a constituent advocate from the office of Congresswoman Susan Wild, D-7th, Fern Roopchand.
