Ronald E. Smoll

Ronald E. Smoll, 88, of Macungie, formerly of Emmaus, died Jan. 11, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Carol (Martin) Smoll. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Earl and Margaret Newhard Smoll.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a graduate of Bethlehem Business College, Muhlenberg College ABA, New York Institute of Credit and commercial lending of Oklahoma University.

He retired as the senior vice president of commercial lending at Lafayette Ambassador Bank, Allentown.

He was involved in many community boards and organizations including: Allentown Rotary Club, board of directors of B’nai B’rith Housing, March of Dimes Executive Board of Directors, Emmaus Historical Society, Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, East Penn Chamber of Commerce, Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, East Penn Council, treasurer of Pennsylvania State University Lehigh Valley Chapter Advisory Board, Mercantile Club and Stone Harbor American Legion.

He was a lifelong member of St. John United Church of Christ, Emmaus and served as a deacon for six years.

He loved traveling with his wife as well as spending countless summers with family and friends at his second residence in Stone Harbor, N.J.

He had a strong passion for sports. He was an avid golfer at Lehigh Country Club and created relationships with many lifelong friends. He was an enormous fan of Penn State football and enjoyed many tailgating weekends at Penn State University. Most of all he loved watching his granddaughters compete in their sporting events. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and most of all a true gentleman.

He is survived by his wife; son, Mark and his wife, Gilda and daughter, Leona, of Huntsville, Utah; daughter, Melissa and her husband, Doug Leonzi and daughters, Jenna, Maeve and Gigi, of Allentown; daughter, Tammy, of Florida.
