Richard J. Brown

Richard J. Brown, 86, of Fogelsville, died Jan. 10, 2024, in Lehigh Valley Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Marilyn M. (Mohr) Brown.

Born Sept. 29, 1937, in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Anthony Brown Jr. and Dorothy (Bergeman) Brown.

A 1955 graduate of Pottstown High School and a 1959 graduate of Lehigh University, with a chemical engineering degree, he was employed by Tarkett Inc., Whitehall, for 18 years before retiring in 2000.

Before that, he worked for Firestone and Occidental Chemical for 23 years.

He spent his retirement years as a part-time employee at Wegmans and took long walks with his dog, Charlie.

He was a member of The Barn in Allentown, former member and past consistory president of St. John’s UCC, Pottstown, former Upper Pottsgrove Township commissioner, and a past president of the Pottstown Penguins Hockey Club.

His survivors include children Peggy Brown and her significant other, Brian Raabe, with whom he resided, Eric Brown and his wife, Jill, of Collegeville; grandchildren Jeremy Brown and wife, Molly Brown, Caitlin Nahrgang and husband, Damian Oswald, Austin Brown, Lauren Nahrgang and husband, Cameron Oswald, Nathan Nahrgang and wife, Anna Nahrgang, and Emily Brown; great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Kylie, and Easton, with two expected this spring; sister-in-law Sally Kern; sons-in-law Paul Nahrgang and Keith Gibson; devoted caregiver Terry; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter Dr. Elizabeth L. Gibson, M.D., a sister Josephine Gaugler, and beloved dog, Charlie.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at St. John’s UCC, 1027 Church St., Fogelsville, with Father Michael Renninger officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the church.

Interment will follow the service at the adjacent church cemetery.
