Chapman Borough has a rich history and derives its name from William Chapman. He was born in 1816 on the Waterloo battlefield. His mother went to the battlefield to attend to her wounded husband. He founded the Chapman Slate Company after purchasing the land for his company for one dollar and a pint of gin.

Chapman’s population is about 220. Chapman was first populated with English, Welsh and Pennsylvania Germans. Chapman Borough’s slogan is “the town that slate built.”

Chapman Borough’s municipal offices are at 401 Main St., and the phone number is 610-837-0842.
