Directly after Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council held its 2024 reorganization meeting, council sprung into action holding its first council meeting of the new year. Council typically holds monthly meetings the first and third Wednesdays during a month.
Council voted to approve the minutes of the Dec. 20, 2023, meeting and the end-of-the-year meeting Dec. 27, 2023. The end-of-the-year meeting is generally brief and held to address any issues that need council’s attention prior to the start of a new year.
In her township report, Manager Melissa Wehr asked if any council members wanted to attend the Pennsylvania State Township Association conference, set for April 14-17. Vice Chairman Robert Heimbecker and Councilman Anthony Rossi volunteered to attend. The conference is held in Hershey.
Wehr was delighted to inform council Watson Land Company donated $5,000 for the upkeep of the basketball and pickleball courts at the township’s parks.
Building inspector, code enforcement and maintenance written reports were submitted to council and approved as written.
The treasurer’s report was accepted by a unanimous council vote.
Council warmly greeted its new township engineer, Kevin Chimics, P.E. Chimics works for Keystone Consulting Engineers, a Lehigh Valley-based, award-winning, multidiscipline civil and consulting engineering and surveying firm.
Council approved the bills up to this meeting, and the meeting was then adjourned.
The next council meeting is 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road. It is in-person only.
