East Allen residents to have no tax hike

East Allen Township Board of Supervisors, at its Dec. 13, 2023, meeting, passed a no-tax-hike budget. The millage remains at 6.5 mills.

There is also no increase in the fire hydrant tax, which will remain at $30. The fire hydrant tax is assessed to most homeowners based on the distance their home is from a fire hydrant.

The board adopted the 2024 township budget by a unanimous vote.

The board also approved Paul Gallagher- Saba to an additional township sewage enforcement officer position.

The board listened to a presentation of Traditions of America Zoning Amendment. The presentation was designed to be an educational effort by Tim McCarthy, a developer who pitched a project that included a 55-and-older community and 250 apartments that the board denied in its present form.

It is expected McCarthy will rework the project proposal and present it to the board at a meeting this month.

A recommendation to amend section 220 taxation article VII, related to the volunteer service tax credit program, was approved.

The volunteer service tax program is essentially a Pennsylvania Commonwealth incentive program for emergency services volunteers to receive property and potentially earned income tax relief. Emergency service volunteers such as firefighters need to fulfill volunteer participation criteria to qualify for the program’s tax credits.

A copy of this program the township participates in can be provided to residents by calling the township office. More information about the volunteer tax credit program can be found at osfc.pa.gov.

The next board of supervisors meeting is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eatwp.org for the access codes to view the meeting virtually.
