During the Coplay Borough Council meeting Jan. 9, Councilman Rick Kern announced the borough is applying for $1.3 million in grant funding.
The grants are through the Pennsylvania State Police Department and the application of renewal for funding through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. These grants would support five streets within the borough as they work to embrace the values of the PCCD mission of increased aid to victims of crimes and public safety.
In other business, council members approved the lease agreement for Lehigh County to use the Coplay Fire Hall building, 165 Cherry St., as a polling place with an increase from $75 to $200.
Additional approvals included towing contracts for Force 1 training, Hesch Service Station, Ironton Auto Body and Wotring’s/Atlas Towing and the annual DRC Technology service contract for $25,000 until Dec. 31.
Council approved a waiver for the fire department to use the fire hall for a fundraiser, set for 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Jan. 20. Coplay Public Library was also approved to use the upper lot at Parkway Pool on Keefer Street for a Vince’s Cheesesteak fundraiser, scheduled for noon-8 p.m. May 15.
Council will next meet 7 p.m. Feb. 6 and 13 in the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.
