Special to The Press
Students will take midterm exams this week, concluding the first semester and second quarter.
Midterm exams account for 20% of the course grade for the first semester and are worth 10% of a student’s final grade. Due to an unexpected school closure last Friday, midterms were postponed a day. Please consult your emails and Sapphire for any updates or information regarding exams.
Come join us for the Partner School Basketball Night Feb. 5. The JV Vikettes will play 4 p.m., and Varsity Vikettes will play 5:30 p.m. The Vikings will play 7 p.m. Partner school students may attend the games for free. The first 50 students arriving will receive Viking foam fingers and the night will include more giveaway items.

The afternoon event will include raffle baskets and 50/50 and specialty raffles. Viking Lax cornhole boards will also be raffled. RSVP through the link in the Viking Weekly newsletter.
All spring athletes may register for their sport now through March 1.
More information regarding free physicals will come soon. The Allentown Central Catholic High School website has instructions for at home impact tests.
To participate in the first day of practice, all athletes must have a current Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association physical dated after June 1, 2023, a current impact test and a FamilyID registration. To register, visit www.familyid.com/organizations/allentown-central-catholic.
The annual “Casual for a Cause” fundraiser which supports Viking Fest 2024 continues this week.
Viking Fest encourages anyone to donate unwanted gift cards they received at Christmas. You may donate gift cards of any value which are redeemable at restaurants, stores or for various services. Any student who brings in a gift card earns a Casual Spirit Day Jan. 22.
Students should give their donation to their homeroom teacher in an envelope with your name and room number, attention: “Viking Fest - Casual for a Cause.”
Central will host its Winter Open House 2-4 p.m. Feb. 4. Attendees will tour the school, meet the administration, learn about athletics, speak with current students and discover all the wonderful clubs and activities available to students. Any family that registers their child Feb. 4 will save $200 off the application fee. Please contact Admissions Director Mrs. Meskill at cmeskill@acchs.info or 610-437-4601 ext. 148 with any questions.
Please come out and join the Rockne Rowdies for some exciting basketball games before the season ends. The Vikettes recently enjoyed a thrilling win over Liberty High School Jan. 10. Forward Abbey Kofroth scored 14 points, guard/forward Arbani Brickhouse downed seven points and guard/forward Milly Wolf contributed six points. Guard Annika Spinosa clinched the go-ahead free throws with 1:01 left, leaving ACCHS in front to win the game 37-36.
The Vikette basketball team will travel to face Parkland 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and play Whitehall High School away 7 p.m. Jan. 22.
The boys basketball team will also face Parkland away 7 p.m. Jan. 19, following the girls’ game. The Vikings will play at home against Whitehall 7 p.m. Jan. 22.
The ACCHS Swim and Dive Team will battle William Allen High School away 4 p.m. Jan. 23 and will travel to meet Pocono Mountain West High School 4 p.m. Jan. 30.
Shout-outs to Addie Kehoe-Huck for earning “Swimmer of the Meet” against Stroudsburg Jan. 3 and to Team Captain Nick Janis, who received “Swimmer of the Meet” versus Southern Lehigh Jan. 6.
The Vikings for Gold Club will collect T-shirts during Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 29 through Feb. 2. The T-shirts will fund their T-shirt drive to support “Zip With Us,” a nonprofit which donates a “ZipShirt” to every pediatric cancer patient with a port, central line or other medical access point. With a ZipShirt, patients do not have to undress to receive treatments, helping to mitigate fear and anxiety while ensuring dignity during their medical care.
The club will accept new T-shirts from sizes 2T-Adult XL, but all shirts must have the tag still attached. The most requested designs include dinosaurs, trucks, superheroes, sports, gaming, Disney characters, kids television shows, Barbie and animals.
ACCHS invites all princesses and princes to a Royal Tea Party 2-4 p.m. Feb. 10 in Masson Auditorium.
The tea party will support the ACCHS Spring Musical production of “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Enchanted Edition)” April 4-6.
Purchase tea tickets early, because seats are limited. Tickets may still remain for purchase at the door based on availability. The party will include tea, juice, finger foods and snacks, along with many activities such as crafts, face painting, story time and an appearance by Cinderella.
The school Instagram page includes a QR code to reserve a seat, or access it by weblink.donorperfect.com/ACCHSRoyalTea. All guests may wear royal or princess attire.
The ACCHS Cheerleading Team will host a cheerleading camp 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 17 for girls in grades K-8.
There is a fee. To pay, bring cash or check the day of the camp. Please make checks payable to “ACCHS Booster Club” with “Cheer” in the memo line.
The ACCHS cheerleaders and their coaches will teach attendees basic cheerleading skills such as jumps, stunting and dance moves. Campers should pack their own lunch and water. Parents, please drop off your child via the alley “back doors” of Rockne Hall.
To minimize distraction and ensure campers have the best experience, parents are discouraged from staying during the event. The girls should wear sneakers and athletic gym wear. Once the camp finishes, girls will wait on the bleachers and parents should line up to receive their child.
This is a great opportunity for future Vikettes to experience Central’s school spirit and fantastic cheerleaders.
