Zurinskas reaches 1,000

Senior Talia Zurinskas averaged 19 points in two games and reached a career milestone to help lead the Parkland High School girls basketball team to two victories and a tournament championship last week at Pine Grove High School.

The Trojans defeated Blue Mountain 51-35 in the opening game of the tournament and then followed that with a 60-35 victory over ELCO a day later.

In the win over the Eagles, Zurinskas scored a game-high 21 points while eclipsing the 1,000-career-point milestone. Blue Mountain cut the deficit to 24-15 halftime, but Parkland took control in the second half.

Delaney Chilcote scored 13 points. Sophie Frank and Madi Siggins each contributed six points and Aneri McGalla rounded out the scoring with five points.

In the victory against ELCO, Parkland led from start to finish but did not start pulling away until the second half when the Trojans outscored their opponent 31-15. The score was 17-12 after the opening quarter and 29-20 at halftime. Siggins scored a game-high 23 points and Zurinskas tallied 17. Chilcote added nine.

The Trojans remained undefeated in bringing home the hardware from Pine Grove at 10-0 overall. They are also 6-0 in conference. Parkland is back in action this week with a nonconference game and an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game, both at home.
