Trojan boys drop two at Widener

The Parkland boys basketball team played a couple of nonconference games over the holiday break.

During the opening game of a tournament at Widener University, the Trojans let a second-quarter lead slip and fell 68-58 to Eastside High School of Camden, NJ.

Two days later, Parkland could not get past Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast in losing 48-45.

Against the Tigers, the Trojans led 16-14 after the opening quarter before East Side outscored Parkland 21-16 in the second quarter and then 33-26 in the second half, including 13-8 in the fourth.

Nick Coval led the way for the Trojans’ offense, finishing with a game-high 28 points. Robbie Ruisch tallied 15 points. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Trojans.

Parkland was on the wrong end of the result in its next game too. Jayden Thomas ended on top of the team’s scoring list with 15 points and Ruisch added 12 points for the Trojans against Bonner-Pendergast.

Parkland fell to 7-3 overall with the two games last week. The Trojans are still undefeated in the East Penn Conference at 6-0.
